Mule Palm (Cold Hardy) - 3 Gallon Pot
A rare hybrid cross of the Pindo and Queen Palm, the Mule Palm exhibits the same tropical look and feel of the coconut palm, but with extra cold hardiness which allows gardeners as far north as USDA Zone 8a, where temperatures can drop to 10F during winter, enjoy growing it outdoors. Mule Palms can be found growing in outdoor landscapes as far north as Virginia Beach on the east coast and Seattle on the west coast. If temperatures in your area drop below 10F it's best to grow this one in a pot that can be overwintered indoors or kept as a year round houseplant. As it grows, the Mule Palm eventually forms a grand specimen 15 to 25 tall or so with an arching canopy 10 to 15 feet wide in Zone 8, and taller as you go further south. In frost-free south Florida it can reach a height of 40 to 50 feet over time. Once mature it displays a tall, thick, brown trunk topped with a crown of long, dark green, arching fronds similar to a coconut palm. One of our favorites of the hardy palms, and one that is sure to bring a taste of the tropics to your landscape! Get all the details below
