Mountain Hemlock - 1 Gallon Pot
One of the Northwest's most beautiful native evergreen trees, Mountain Hemlock, Tsuga mertensiana, develops into an upright, slender pyramid to around 20 feet tall and maybe 8 feet wide at its base when all grown up, which is perfect for adding height in small spaces. Its layered horizontal branches are densely clothed in clusters of short grayish-blue-green needles on all sides, presenting a bottlebrush-like effect. Beautiful young cones appear in mid-May to mid-July. The 2.5 to 3-inch-long cylindrical female cones are rich purple. The 1/4-inch male cones are bluish. The mature seed cones measure up to 3 inches long, ripening and opening in fall to reddish-brown with fan-shaped scales. Unlike other types of hemlocks that prefer life on the shady side, the Mountain Hemlock will grow well in full sun or light shade, with its foliage being denser with more sun, and it is drought-tolerant once established. It is excellent as a focal point specimen or grouping in landscape or woodland borders, or as an accent or to frame corners in home foundation plantings. Get all the details below
