Autumn Moor Grass (Sesleria autumnalis) - 1 Gallon Pot
Winner of the prestigious Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society, Sesleria autumnalis, commonly known as Autumn Moor Grass, is a favorite of renowned garden designer Piet Oudolf. It is planted in masses and puts on a pleasing show in New York City’s Highline Garden and Chicago’s Lurie Garden. It features a dense, neat mound of slender lime green to chartreuse blades from which rise numerous stems bearing narrow spikes of silver white flowers held high above the foliage in summer persisting through fall, at which time they morph into tan seedheads. The foliage turns a glowing golden color in fall. Plants tolerate a wide range of conditions including dry light shade, full blazing sun, excess salinity, drought, cold (-30F), alkaline pH, many different soil types including clay, harsh urban environments and the difficult conditions associated with Black Walnut trees. At 24 inches tall and 18 inches wide, Autumn Moor Grass makes for a fine accent in smaller garden spaces and container gardens or in groupings or mass plantings in sunny to lightly shaded landscape borders. Also excellent massed for erosion control on slopes. Deer, rabbits and insects leave it alone, and we've seen no problems with disease on this hardy and attractive long-lived perennial.
