Adcock's Dwarf Japanese Pine (Pinus parviflora) - 3 Gallon Pot
A true dwarf, Pinus parviflora 'Adcock's Dwarf' was discovered as a seedling from a witches broom Japanese White Pine at Hillier Nurseries in England. It was named after its propagator, Graham Adcock. Everything about this diminutive selection, from its needles to its mature size, is small. Adding maybe 2 inches of new growth per year, you might expect an 18 to 24 inch tall and wide shrub at 10 years of age, and that's without any pruning. An annual candle pruning results in half that size. The very short, 5/8" needles are dark blue-green color with greyish white undersides. Prominent 1.5 to 2 inch long cute little candles adorn the shrub in spring. Needless to say, Adcock's Dwarf makes for fine little specimen in miniature gardens or pots, and is excellent for shohin bonsai. Either way, trained as bonsai or left to grow naturally, even young plants look like an old tree. Even though small, this one will not go unnoticed in any garden! Get all the details below
