Mountain Snow Pieris
Pieris japonica 'Planow'

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 4a-8b   Find Your Zone

Special Attributes

Finally, a more heat-tolerant and less-finicky Pieris japonica! If you've tried growing Pieris in your landscape or gardens in the past without much luck, 'Mountain Snow' Pieris, from the Southern Living Plant Collection, is here to change that!

Mountain Snow offers interest in the garden with both foliage and showy blooms. During summer, attractive, pendulous flower stems loaded with buds appear that will persist through winter before opening early the next spring to beautiful, bell-shaped, ivory flowers.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a mound 3 to 4 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide, Mountain Snow Pieris is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or as a natural hedge in shady to partially shaded landscape and woodland borders, and home foundation plantings. They do especially well on fertile embankments, hillsides and slopes. We've had good long-term success growing this one in container gardens and it's a fine addition to woodland gardens, Asian-theme gardens, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 2.5' for solid hedges and mass plantings;  6' or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Plant your Mountain Snow Pieris in a moist but well drained acidic soil that are rich in organic matter. Add organic compost to heavy clay or poor quality native soils. Pieris prefer growing in a site that provides morning sun with afternoon shade or all-day filtered sun or dappled shade. Avoid direct afternoon sun.
