Mount Airy Fothergilla
Fothergilla 'Mount Airy'

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 5a-8b  Find Your Zone

Special Attributes

Mount Airy Fothergilla is a rare and beautiful North American native cultivar that produces loads of fragrant, pure-white, bottlebrush-like flower spikes at the ends of almost every branch in spring. The flowers exude a wonderful honey-like scent. After flowering, handsome, leathery, blue-green leaves emerge on the upright shrub that persist through summer becoming brilliant shades of gold, orange, purple and red in fall.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 foot wide, Mount Airy Fothergilla is ideal for use as a specimen or in groupings in landscape, flowering shrub and woodland borders or in home foundation plantings. Especially nice near the garden pond or other bodies of water. A fine addition to North American native plant gardens.

Cultural Preferences

Mount Airy Fothergilla is very easy to grow and virtually maintenance free when planted right and in the right spot. It prefers a moist but well-drained acidic soil of average to high fertility and full sun or part shade.
