Grey Owl Juniper
Juniperus virginiana  'Grey Owl'

Special Attributes

'Grey Owl' is a fast growing Juniper prized for its greyish-blue foliage color that provides outstanding color landscape. The horizontal, gracefully ascending branches that droop at the ends, and the feathery, thread-like foliage provide a wonderful texture in the landscape, contrasting nicely with other plants and trees that have dark green, purple, red, burgundy or golden foliage.

Landscape & Garden Uses

If you're looking to create a low-growing natural hedge or need a plant to quickly cover an ugly slope that's washing away, Grey Owl Juniper is a fine choice. Growing 8-10 feet wide and maybe 3 feet tall, it also works well as a specimen in landscape borders or an accent where there is room in home foundation plantings. It can also be trained into a pom pom topiary form. A fine addition to conifer gardens and rock and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  6 to 8 feet for mass plantings;  16 feet or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Grey Owl Juniper is exceptionally easy to grow in most any average, well-drained soil and full sun, however will tolerate some light shade. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot or other harmful plant diseases. Very low-maintenance, it requires no pruning.
