Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Indian Hawthorne variety is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Special Attributes

An exceptionally low-maintenance, drought and heat tolerant evergreen flowering shrub, Eleanor Tabor is a dwarf Indian Hawthorne that produces abundant clusters of pretty, light-pink flowers in spring that nearly cover the foliage. Birds love the black berries that follow the flowers. Indian Hawthorne are good alternatives to Azaleas where there's too much sun and dry soil. No pruning necessary as this shrub will maintain a dense, mounded form all on its own.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a mound 3 to 4 feet tall and 4 to 5 feet wide at maturity, the Eleanor Taber Indian Hawthorne is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or as a low-maintenance hedge in home foundation plantings and landscape and flowering shrub borders. It also serves well as a colorful mass planting for erosion control on slopes and embankments. Can be grown in containers but likes growing in the ground better. A fine addition to pink color gardens and bird gardens!

Suggested Spacing: 4 feet apart for solid hedge;  8 feet or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Eleanor Tabor Indian Hawthorne is easy to grow in well-drained moist soils of average fertility in full sun to part shade. Morning sun is a must to dry dew from the leaves. As with so many other ornamental shrubs, constantly soggy or wet soils can cause root rot and other harmful plant diseases. When established Indian Hawthorne are exceptionally drought tolerant. That said, during prolonged periods of summer drought established plants will appreciate an occasional deep soaking. Does not require pruning to maintain its naturally dense form.
