An absolutely beautiful weeping form of our super hardy and easy-to-grow North America native Bald Cypress, 'Cascade Falls' is clothed in the same soft and feathery leaves as its cousins but on a smaller tree. Its branches gracefully cascade like a water fall to the ground, then spreading to form skirt around the tree. We think the trailing skirt is very attractive, but if you don't want it the branches can just trimmed off. The leaves emerge a neon green in spring maturing to medium green through summer then turning to orange to copper shades with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall. Unlike most other coniferous trees which retain their foliage through winter, bald cypresses loose their needles to show off their reddish-brown exfoliating bark during the winter months. At 10 to 20 feet tall and 8 to 15 feet or so wide at maturity depending on pruning, the irregular weeping habit ensures that no two trees will be identical, making for a unique specimen in sunny landscape borders or around patios, decks and other outdoor living spaces. Highly adaptable and hardy in USDA Zones 4a to 9b, Cascade Falls Bald Cypress thrives in sunny sites and moist to wet conditions, even standing water, which makes it a fine choice for those areas of the landscape where the soil tends to stay wet, such as along streams or around ponds or other bodies of water.
