Lemony Lace Elderberry (Sambucus) - 3 Gallon Pot
A great alternative to lace leaf Japanese maples in areas where it's too cold for them to be grown, the Lemony Lace Elderberry is a North American native and 3-season colorful beauty adored for its feathery, fern-like foliage on an airy looking mound 4 to 6 feet tall and equally as wide. The color show starts in early spring when red buds at the naked stem tips open to clusters of pretty white flowers. Soon after, reddish new leaves emerge quickly turning to bright golden-yellow. By summer the leaves have become golden chartreuse then turning to deep yellow shades in fall. Following the flowers are clusters of bright red berries, which are showy but non-edible for humans, however the birds love them. Easy to grow, Lemony Lace is a unique and eye-catching plant that can be grown in the ground or containers as a focal point in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders, home foundation plantings and around patios and other outdoor sitting and living spaces. Hardy in USDA Zones 4a to 7b, it grows well in full sun in northern gardens but will prefer some filtered sun or shade during the afternoon in hot-summer climates. You might also be be happy to know it's deer resistant. Get all the details below
