An exceptionally attractive and useful small shrub, 'Mount Vernon' forms a dense and tidy evergreen mound that reaches only 2 feet tall and spreads to about 5 feet. Unlike its flowering cousins, this dwarf form does not flower or set seed. It is not invasive in the garden or in our native habitat. Even with its diminutive size, Mount Vernon has the same toughness and good looks of its larger growing cousins, with deep green lustrous foliage. It tolerates drought, poor soils, and dry, heavy shade to full sun. Excellent as an accent in smaller spaces, for a low informal hedge or border, or groundcover under trees and large shrubs.
