Loblolly Pine Tree (Pinus taeda) - 3 Gallon Pot
The fastest growing of all North American native pines, the Loblolly Pine can add 2 to 3 feet in height per year. Particularly noted for its straight and tall trunk, though it can reach heights over 70 feet in the wild, it might reach 40 to 50 feet tall and 20 to 40 feet wide in the landscape where in full sun it develops a dense, rounded pyramidal to oval crown. It sports dark green needles up to 10 inches long in bundles of three. The three year old needles drop once a year so there's never a need to apply mulch. It produces rusty-brown rounded pyramidal cones to 6 inches long adorn the canopy in groups of 2 to 5. The attractive reddish brown scaly young bark matures to blocky plates of grey-grown with age. Though the Loblolly Pine is an important timber tree whose wood is used for pulp, plywood and general construction as well as in the paper industry, it is a very hardy, long-lived and easy-to-grow attractive specimen or grouping in the residential landscape and perfect for quick, evergreen reforestation of bare land. The Loblolly Pine is sure to be visual presence in your landscape and acid-loving plants such as Azaleas and Camellias thrive under it. Get all the details below
