Special Attributes

Flowering Almond is an old-time favorite and highly ornamental shrub grown for its breathtaking late winter to early spring display of fully-double pink flowers that cover the bare branches in late winter or early spring. In our gardens it flowers right after Forsythia finishes blooming. The flowers are followed by small, round dark red fruits that the birds will enjoy and oblong light green leaves. branches czan be cut when starting to flower and brought indoors for use in flower arrangements.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing upright to 4 to 5 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, Flowering Almond is a fine addition to a sunny or partially shaded flowering shrub border, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens and cut flower gardens.

Cultural Preferences

Flowering Almond is very easy to grow. It is not picky about soil type preferring a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Good soil drainage is a must. Full sun is preferred however plants will tolerate some light shade. Tolerates urban conditions. Flowering Almond does not require pruning, however, an annual pruning immediately after flowering will encourage growth of new stems for better bloom the following year. Promptly remove root suckers unless naturalization is desired.
