Uncle Wiley Dwarf Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) - 1 Gallon Pot
Discovered at the University of Oregon by Doug Wilson, and named after his son Wiley, 'Uncle Wiley' is a very cute version of our North American native Sitka Spruce, a North American conifer indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. In late spring pom pom like clusters of buds open to form bursts of bright light green needles that mature to a lovely light powder-blue. The contrast between the opening buds and the older growth on the plant is white charming. A slow grower that might reach 2.5 to 3 feet tall and 2 to 2.5 feet wide at 10 years of age, Uncle Wiley is an adorable addition to a small garden space or in containers that can be situated on sunny patios or around other outdoor sitting and living spaces. No one knows the mature height on this new selection but, based on his slow growth rate of 3 to 4 inches per year, we're guessing around 4 to 5 feet tall and equally as wide over time. Tolerating exposed spots and high winds makes this low-maintenance evergreen a fine selection for for both coastal gardens and high altitude gardens up to 2,700 feet. Get all the details below
