Papoose Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) - 5 Gallon Pot
Discovered on Vancouver Island back in the 1960s, 'Papoose' Sitka Spruce is a top-notch North American native conifer indigenous to the Pacific Northwest. A dwarf form of Picea sitchensis, it forms a globe to maybe 3 to 4 feet tall and 3 feet wide at 10 years of age becoming a broad rounded cone that reaches 7 to 8 feet tall and 5 to 6 feet wide when all grown up. In late spring clusters of buds at the stem tips open to form bursts of new blue foliage that matures to two-tone blue and green needles. Tolerating exposed spots and high winds makes this lovely low-maintenance evergreen a fine selection for coastal gardens and high altitude gardens up to 2,700 feet. Excellent for small garden spaces, patio containers and home foundation plantings and a fine addition to conifer and rock gardens. Get all the details below
