Hannah Creek Swamp Bay Tree (Persea) - 7 Gallon Pot
A hard-to-find North American native tree, Persea palustris 'Hannah Creek' is a Swamp Bay Tree with handsome evergreen, aromatic leaves that can be substituted for bay leaves in cooking. In the wild, it can be found growing in swamps and along streams and other bodies of water, so it is ideal for growing in areas of the landscape where the soil tends to be consistently moist. That said, it can also handle periodic dry periods when established. Its long leaves can be up to 8 inches long, with new leaves being bronze shades. The leaf's surface is a shiny dark green with silvery-white undersides and orange-tinged midveins. Clusters of tiny, inconspicuous yellow flowers are followed by deep blue berries that the birds will appreciate. The thick furrowed bark ranges from red to gray or gray-brown. Swamp Bay is excellent for coastal and native gardens and is a handsome focal point specimen in the landscape. Get all the details below
