October Daphne Sedum - (Stonecrop)
Thought by many sedum enthusiasts to have the most beautiful foliage and form of all sedums, this adorable plant is admired for its season-long good looks, with changing foliage colors and pretty flowers. Sedum sieboldii, commonly called October Dasphne Sedum due to its fall bloom, forms a low, spreading, rounded cushion up to 10 inches tall and 18 inches wide that sends out horizontal branches from the central crown. These branches are clothed in ¾" round, blue-green leaves that are borne in 3's around the stems, with each leaf being trimmed with a narrow outline of deep pink that intensifies in the heat of summer. With the arrival of cooler fall temperatures, the foliage turns a beautiful rainbow of colors, including shades of pink, red, yellow, and orange. What's more, in early fall, abundant clusters of bright pink, star-shaped flowers are held at the ends of the stems. Easy to grow in well-drained soil and six or more hours of sunlight daily, it is perfect as a border or groundcover, or as an accent in small garden spaces and containers placed on or around sunny patios and other outdoor living spaces.
