Gerald Darby Iris - 1 Gallon Pot
Spectacular in both foliage and flower color, the Gerald Darby Iris is a naturally occurring hybrid between two of our North American native irises: Iris versicolor and Iris virginica. It stands out from other Iris varieties because its upward-reaching leaves that rise from the ground in spring are colored purple. By the end of spring or early summer, the foliage has mostly transitioned to green shades typical of the species; however, about that time comes the next color show when thick and tall purple stems topped with exquisite violet-blue irises are displayed. The flowers are sure to attract the butterflies and hummingbirds. Forming a clump to about 2 to 3 feet tall and equally as wide, Gerald Darby is a highly adaptable and easy-to-grow hardy perennial. It thrives in full sun to partial shade in average garden soils but thrives equally well in wet soils and even standing water with a crown several inches below the water surface. This makes it a fine candidate for growing in containers in the garden pond or wet spots in the garden. A superb specimen for smaller garden spaces and containers or grouped where space allows. You might be happy to know that, unlike some other wetland irises, Gerald Darby is a clump-former that is not invasive. Get all the details below
