Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this plant is not winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring. If brought in, it's best to move it outside on warmer days to get some sun and fresh air.

Landscape / Garden Uses

Growing in a large bushy form to 5-10 feet tall and 4 to 8 feet wide (depending on pruning), Howardi Golden Ligustrum is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a natural or clipped hedge or background in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Remove lower branches to desired height and you have a very attractive single- or multi-trunk tree that serves as an outstanding, color focal point specimen anywhere in the sunny landscape. A fine addition to fragrance and yellow-themed color gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  5' for solid hedges;  12' or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Howardi Golden Ligistrum is easy to grow when planted right, and in the right spot. It adapts to most soil types, prefers full sun or mostly sun, but tolerates some shade. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best foliage color and flowering. It prefers a moist but well-drained soil however is exceptionally tolerant of dry soil conditions when established. As with many other ornamental plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic.
