Kim's Knee High Coneflower (Echinacea) - 1 Gallon Pot
Introduced in 2001 by Kim Hawks of Niche Gardens in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, ‘Kim’s Knee High’ is as popular as ever, for good reasons, and remains an all-time favorite in our gardens. She is a dwarf version of the North American native species adored for her shorter habit and long summer bloom. Kim's Knee High begins blooming when her rigid flower stems are about 15 inches tall and continues to late summer, at which time the stems might reach 2 feet tall. The daisy-like coneflowers feature drooping, clear rose-pink to purple-pink petals surrounding large, pin cushion-like, coppery-orange central cones. The flowers rise above an attractive clump of coarsely-toothed, dark green leaves that are up to 6 inches long. Not only will you and your guests enjoy this floriferous beauty in the garden or as fresh or dried cut flowers, the butterflies, hummingbirds and other birds will as well. If spent flowers are left on the plant at the end of the flowering season, the dry black cones provide winter interest in the garden and also seeds for goldfinches and other birds. Drought, deer, heat, humidity, and poor soil tolerant...what more can we ask for in a flowering perennial plant? Get all the details below!
