Barbarini 'Purple Picotee' Sweet William (Dianthus) - 5 Pack of Quart Pots
Sweet William is an old-fashioned cottage garden plant that is typically a taller growing, self-sowing biennial Dianthus that doesn't bloom until its second year. That's all changed. The Barbarini 'Purple Picotee' Sweet William is first-year flowering with a dwarf, compact habit, and is fully winter hardy. From late spring through summer, abundant large rounded clusters of deliciously clove-scented, velvety, frilly magenta-purple flowers with white edges sit atop sturdy stems that rise just above a low mound of attractive deep green foliage. You can expect a long bloom period from late spring through summer, and removing spent flowers keeps more coming. That said, towards the end of the flowering season leave some spent flowers on the plant for self-sowing in spring. The flowers are excellent for cutting and use in floral arrangements. A superb pot Dianthus that is also great for garden beds, this one is deer and rabbit resistant, and the breeder says they are cold hardy to at least USDA Zone 4. Get all the details below!
