Discovered by Paul Woody in Morganton, North Carolina, 'Little Woody' is not your ordinary Redbud. A compact and distinctive vase shaped tree that might reach 10 to 12 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide, Little Woody sports what we think are the most texturally unusual and attractive leaves of any redbud. Characteristically, the leaves puckered, thick and rubber-like in texture and are layered on stems like shingles. New heart-shaped leaves emerge bronze quickly turning to dark red before then to light green that ages to dusty blue-green for the summer and finally to yellow shades in fall. As with most other redbuds, abundant pinkish-purple pea-like flowers clothe branches and stems to herald the arrival of spring.
