A Blooms of Bressingham variety selected for outstanding qualities, reliable growing performance and stunning beauty, Centaurea montana 'Amethyst in Snow' is the first bicolor cultivar of this species. Commonly called Mountain Bluet, Perennial Bachelor's Buttons or Mountain Cornflower, it is a hardy perennial that's easy to grow almost anywhere in the U.S., from USDA Zones 3a to 8b and reportedly in Zone 9. Amethyst in Snow features unique shingled buds that open to exquisite ferris wheel shaped flowers with well-spaced tubular white petals radiating outwards from a contrasting deep royal purple center. From mid spring through early summer, the flowers are perched atop stems that rise 12 to 24 inches tall over a mound of lance-shaped grey green foliage. If spent flower stems are snipped off reblooming will occur in late summer to early fall. Excellent in sunny mixed perennial borders and natural areas or cottage gardens. Plant near patios and other outdoors living spaces where you can enjoy the flowers and the butterflies feeding from close up. Get all the details below!
