Special Attributes

Cayenne Dogwood is a moderate to fast growing shrub that features bright red stems throughout the winter season. The beautiful green leaves and white flowers appear in spring followed by interesting porcelain-blue berries in late summer. As fall arrives the green leaves turn to a bright orange-red before dropping to expose the fiery red stems. Cayenne Dogwood offers a wonderful display of year round color so it's best to plant near a sitting area, in a focal spot near the home, at entryways, or just about any spot where you or those passing by can enjoy the show!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to 6-8 feet tall and 8-10 feet wide, the Cayenne Dogwood is ideal for use as a specimen, in small or large groupings, or espalier (grown up a wall) in home foundation plantings. It is also useful as an accent, background, border or hedge. A fine addition to bird gardens, cut flower gardens (for stems and branches), and rock gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  6' for solid hedges; 12' or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Cayenne Dogwood is easy when planted right, and in the right spot. It performs well in most soil types, is well-suited for moist areas, and likes full to mostly sun. It prefers moist, consistently boggy soil conditions, however will perform well in dry soils. If the soil is well drained Cayenne Dogwood will appreciate some water during extended dry periods.
