Michael Lindsey Fragrant Sweetshrub (Calycanthus) - 1 Gallon Pot
Discovered by Allen Bush in North Carolina, according to Michael Dirr, acclaimed horticulturist and professor at UGA, the “Calycanthus floridus 'Michael Lindsey' is the standard by which any future introductions will be measured." The reason is that every Michael Lindsey Sweetshrub has consistently fragrant flowers, while the native species can be hit or miss. The gorgeous, abundant, maroon-red spider-like flowers bloom over a long period in April and May over dark, lustrous green foliage that turn to clear yellow in fall. Some years, the plant in our gardens will rebloom in summer. The fragrance of the flowers is a bit hard to describe, with a combined fragrance of strawberry, cantaloupe, spiced apple, and burgundy wine that will surely please the soul. A North American native flowering shrub that anyone in USDA Zones 4b-9b can grow in full sun, partial shade, and moist or wet soil. It reaches 6 to 8 feet in height and needs a space of about 10 feet by 10 feet to grow over time. Get all the details below
