Seki No Kegon Weeping Japanese Maple - 3 Gallon Pot (3-4')
Discovered in 1970 in Japan, but not commercially released there until 2008, this phenomenal Japanese Maple with a look like no other has finally made it to the United States. Most of us maple enthusiasts know the vast majority of weeping cultivars come with deeply divided lacy leaves, but not this rare and unique Acer sieboldianum. 'Seki No Kegon' sports large, 7 to 9 lobed, orbicular leaves on gracefully cascading branches providing a very lush and flowing appearance in the garden. The handsome leaves emerge a soft green in spring transitioning to darker green shades by summer and then to brilliant shades of red, orange and yellow with the arrival of cooler temperatures in fall. Speaking of cooler temperatures, Seki No Kegon is one of the more cold hardy selections, tolerating temperatures down to -30F in USDA Zone 4. Growing in a broad mound of lovely sweeping curves, you might expect it to reach 4 to 5 feet tall and wide in 10 years and double that at maturity. New and different than any other Japanese maple, this curving beauty is sure to be a captivating specimen in the garden. Get all the details below
