Japanese Momi Fir Tree - 6 Pack of 1 Gallon Pots
The most heat and humidity-tolerant Fir we're aware of, Abies firma, commonly known as the Momi Fir or Japanese Fir, can be enjoyed by outdoor gardeners as far south as USDA Zone 9b in central Florida and elsewhere across the South and is also cold hardy to Zone 6a, where average winter low temperatures can be -10F. It has some of the most unique and attractive foliage of any fir tree, resembling the foliage of Cephalotaxus harringtonia (Japanese Yew). The deep green needles in rows along the twig appear like a comb but with two rows of needles on each side of the twig in a V-shaped pattern. Green upright conical seed cones appearing as candles up to 5 inches long emerge green in spring, maturing to yellowish-brown, and remain showy throughout summer. Once a planted specimen roots into the soil, it will add about 12 inches in height per year, forming an upright pyramid from 40 to 60 feet tall and 20 to 30 feet wide at maturity. The Japanese Momi Fir is excellent as a specimen or in spaced groupings or privacy screen plantings. It also makes the perfect Christmas tree for gardeners in the warmer USDA Zones of 6a-9b!
