Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6b, where this Camellia variety is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Named for its cold tolerance as far north as USDA Zone 6b, 'Winter's Dream' is a hybrid Camellia with very pretty flowers consisting of pink petals flushed with lavender tones surrounding a boss of bright yellow center stamens. The flowers appear October into December for unrivaled winter interest when not much else is blooming in the garden. Semi-glossy, deep green foliage provides a perfect backdrop for the abundance of delightful flowers. The flowers and foliage are excellent for cutting and displaying in your favorite vase.




Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 8-10 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Winter's Dream Camellia can be grown can be grown as a shrub or small tree. In shrub form it is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as natural hedge or background plant in landscape borders and is also nice as a corner plant or espalier (trained to grow flat against a wall) in home foundations. As it grows lower branches can be removed to for a highly attractive small evergreen tree that makes a colorful focal point specimen in landscape borders or home foundation plantings. A fine addition to winter gardens, camellia gardens, pink theme gardens, cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be brought indoors during winter where this plant isn't reliably winter hardy above USDA Zone 6a. Find Your Zone

Spacing:  5 to 6 feet apart for solid hedge; 12 feet apart for space between plants




Cultural Preferences

Camellia adapt well to various soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellia grows and blooms better in partial shade with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine.
