Special Attributes

White Pussy Willow is a very large growing deciduous shrub or small that is sure to be a conversation piece in your landscape and/or floral display in your home. In late winter to early spring upward-facing, fuzzy, cat paw-like 1-inch catkins appear up and down the bare branches. Pussy willow's white buds open to yellow, bottlebrush-like that are one of the first pollen and nectar sources for pollinating insects. As the flowers fade dark green broad elliptic to oblong leaves (to 6” long) will emerge and remain until the first heavy frost in fall. The cut branches with buds are excellent for use in indoor cut flower arrangements.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 20 to 25 feet tall and 15-20 feet wide, the White Pussy Willow can be grown naturally as a large shrub or lower branches can be removed to form a small to mid-size tree. It makes for a beautiful large single specimen or in groupings along borders. Great for use in large cut flower gardens.

Cultural Preferences

White Pussy Willow is exceptionally easy to grow. It is adaptable to most any average soil, preferring a loose, moist but well-drained soil. Full sun is preferred however plants will tolerate some light shade. Does not require pruning, however responds well to it for shaping purposes. Prune immediately after flowering.
