Special Attributes

Say hello to 'Twilight' Nandina...the first Nandina with variegated leaves!

Nandinas are cold and heat hardy and evergreen year round, though they are so much more than just green! Most varieties are known for their deep green leaves that change to fiery reds and and shades of orange during the winter. But 'Twilight' Nandina changes everything...adding a fine elegance to your garden with its beautiful variegated green leaves that are iced in white. To make things even more colorful the new growth is a beautiful pink, which keeps coming throughout the warm season. The interplay between all these colors on the same plant is truly striking! The pink new leaves will become irregularly flecked white variegation that eventually ages to green, which contrasts beautifully with the constant new growth. The colors intensify in the winter and, as icing on the cake, the plants get a sultry pink glow in the spring. Flowers are very sparse, so don't expect much in the way of berries, which means that you won't have seedlings popping up everywhere throughout your landscape!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing naturally to 2-3 feet tall and 2-2.5 feet wide, its mounding form and beautiful foliage make Twilight Nandina an excellent choice for stunning groupings or mass plantings in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Also ideal for use to line walkways and paths. Makes a fine centerpiece or accent in container gardens. A fine addition to rock and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).

Spacing:  18" for solid hedge or mass plantings;  3.5' or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Twilight Nandina is exceptionally easy to grow in most any average, moist but well drained soils and full sun to part shade. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. As with so many other shrubs, constantly wet or soggy can cause root rot and other plant diseases. Exceptionally low maintenance requiring little if any pruning. Its low water needs makes it highly suitable for Xeriscape gardening.
