Special Attributes

This long blooming perennial hardy Hibiscus produces very large 8" white flowers with magenta tipped ruffled petals and magenta veining radiating out from the deep cherry red eye! The flowers of Cherry Cheesecake appear in early to mid-summer and continue into fall. This plant forms a large, bushy shrub-like clump with dark green foliage. It's performing very well in our gardens here in Zone 8a of mid-Georgia. Your butterfly and hummingbird friends are going to love you for including this plant in the garden.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 4 to 5 feet tall with an equal spread, Cherry Cheesecake Hibiscus makes a bold specimen in the garden or in large containers. It also serves well as a backdrop for lower growing plants in flower gardens.  A great plant for bringing a tropic flare to your outdoor living spaces.  Because they are such beautiful flowering trees, we think Rose of Sharon are most useful in the landscape as a focal point specimen, however are also nice grouped or used as attractive, colorful hedges in landscape borders.

Spacing:  3-4' for solid hedges;  7'+ for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Hardy Hibiscus are very easy to grow. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil and plenty of sunshine, though some shade is tolerated. During prolonged periods of summer drought plants will appreciate supplemental water to bloom their best. Maintenance is minimal requiring just one pruning a year to prune plants back to ground when new growth begins to emerge in spring.
