Stellar Pink Dogwood Tree
Cornus x 'Rutgan'

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 5a-9b  Find Your Zone

Special Attributes

If you've been afraid to plant a Dogwood tree for fear of disease and/or borer problems, have no more fear. Stellar Pink is a hybrid of American Dogwood crossed with Japanese Dogwood which results in much stronger vigor and resistance to dogwood borer and disease.

Stellar Pink Dogwood was developed by Elwin R. Orton, Jr. as part of the Stellar series of dogwoods released by Rutgers University. It is prized for its vigorous growth, large flowers and profuse bloom. It is a small tree maturing to 20 feet tall and wide with a very dense, upright rounded habit. The large and beautiful, 3 to 5 inch diameter, four-petaled pink flower bracts appear in spring before new leaves emerge. The deep green leaves will  unblemished and healthy throughout the entire warm season until they turn shades of purple and red in fall.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 15 to 20 feet feet tall and wide, the Stellar Pink Dogwood is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or in a staggered row in sunny or shady landscape or woodland borders. Also nice to frame the corners of tall homes and to provide beauty and some shade around patios, porches and other outdoor living spaces. A fine addition to woodland gardens and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  25' or more for space between trees

Cultural Preferences

Dogwood trees are adaptable to many soil types however prefer a moist but well-drained soil rich in organic matter. Though Dogwood trees will tolerate full sun, we think they look and perform best with some shade or filtered sun during the hottest part of summer afternoons.Constantly soggy or wet soils are problematic. Maintenance is minimal to none. Except to remove a stray or broken branch, no pruning is necessary.
