Special Attributes

A very tough yet attractive juniper perfect for covering embankments, hillsides and slopes and for landscape borders, the Parson's Juniper grows 24 to 30 inches tall and up to 8 feet wide with with feathery, very dark green leaves on branches that reach out horizontally like arms. Grows very dense to block out weeds and has good salt tolerance, making it an excellent selection for seaside plantings. Tolerant of heat, cold, drought, insects and disease,if low maintenance is your thing look no further than the Parson's Juniper.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing about 2 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, the Parson's Juniper is excellent for use as a groundcover on large to small slopes and embankments, in landscape borders, or as a low-growing foundation shrub. It is equally useful in small groups or as an underplanting for small trees such as the Japanese Maple and Crape Myrtle. One of the most popular junipers for bonsai. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  4 to 5 feet apart for mass plantings

Cultural Preferences

The Parsons Juniper is exceptionally easy to grow in most any average, well-drained soil and full sun to light shade. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. As with so many other conifers, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot or other harmful plant diseases. Very low-maintenance requiring no pruning when provided ample room to grow.
