Special Attributes

Parson's Juniper is an attractive, low-growing evergreen conifer growing 24 to 30 inches tall and up to 8 feet with with feathery, very dark green leaves on branches that reach out horizontally like arms. Grows well in any well-drained soil and has good salt tolerance, making it a good selection for seaside plantings.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 2 feet tall and 6 to 8 feet wide, Parson's Juniper is excellent for use as a groundcover on large to small slopes and embankments, in landscape borders, or as a low-growing foundation shrub. It is equally useful in small groups or as an underplanting for small trees such as the Japanese Maple and Crape Myrtle. Suitable for bonsai.  A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Cultural Preferences

The Parsons Juniper is exceptionally easy to grow in most any average, well-drained soil and full sun, however will tolerate some light shade. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. Constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot or other harmful plant diseases. Very low-maintenance, it requires no pruning when provided ample room to grow.
