Special Attributes

October Magic® Rose is fast becoming a staple for homeowners and professional landscape designers alike. Bright, truly double, salmon-rose flowers against the glossy, dark green foliage are simply stunning. This selection has a dense, upright, nearly columnar form so lends itself well to narrow situations or smaller garden spaces.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing only 6-8 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide with an upright, columnar form, October Magic® Rose Camellia is perfect for smaller garden spaces or those spots that call for a narrower plant. It is ideal for use as an accent or espalier (grown flat against a wall) in narrow spaces in home foundation plantings, or as a hedge or background plant or in groupings in landscape and woodland borders. As it matures, it can also be "limbed up" to form a small tree that serves well as an attractive and colorful specimen in the landscape. Great for cottage gardens, cut flower gardens and woodland borders. Also suitable for containers that can be overwintered indoors for those who live and garden above USDA Zone 7a, where not winter hardy. Find Your Zone >

Spacing:  2-3' for solid hedge; 6'+ for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Camellia adapt well to various soil types. They prefer a moist but well-drained acidic soil that is rich in organic matter. Constantly soggy soil is a slow killer. In general, Camellias grow and bloom their best in partial shade, with some shelter from the hot afternoon sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sunlight is perfect. All-day filtered sun is fine. Late evening sun is fine.
