MoonBay Dwarf Nandina
Nandina domestica  'Moonbay'

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 6a-11  Find Your Zone >

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Nandina is not winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Special Attributes

'Moonbay' is a compact, dense Nandina that adds outstanding color and texture to the garden. The fresh, lighter green leaves of this variety turn brilliant scarlet in winter, creating a bold focal point in the winter garden. It has a much denser foliage than most other nandina and does not produce flowers or berries.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing naturally to 2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide, it's mounding form and beautiful foliage make Moonbay Nandina an excellent choice for stunning groupings or mass plantings in sunny to partially shaded landscape borders and home foundation plantings. Also ideal for use to line walkways and paths. Makes a fine centerpiece or accent in container gardens. A fine addition to rock and Xeriscape gardens (low water needs).

Spacing:  18" for solid hedge or mass plantings;  4' or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences
Moonbay Nandina is exceptionally easy to grow in most any average, moist but well drained soils and full sun to part shade. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established. As with so many other shrubs, constantly wet or soggy can cause root rot and other plant diseases. Exceptionally low maintenance requiring little if any pruning. Its low water needs makes it highly suitable for Xeriscape gardening.
