USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 7a-11  Find Your Zone

Special Attributes

The wonderful, evergreen, 'Maggie' Eucalyptus is named for its lazy, weeping habit. It's very easy to grow and will continuously reward you with its interesting bark, foliage and weeping habit. Its fragrant young leaves are vivid blue turning soft reds to purple in winter. Maggie's bark is a stunning deeply furrowed black. She will thrive in USDA Zones 7a through 11 and may survive colder Zones with some protection, and is one of the most vigorous re-growers if frozen to the ground. A great choice for areas prone to wide swings in temperatures. Maggie could reach 30 to 40 feet tall, however is easy to maintain at much lower heights as she takes very well to pruning.

Cold Hardiness

What we've learned in growing trials in McDonough, GA (zone 8A), our 3 year old Eucalyptus trees had minimal leaf damage and looked great following winters where temps twice reached 6°.  In Westerville, NC trees, trees that had die back at -10; have regrown from their base to form large shrubs and small trees.

Landscape Uses

Growing 30 to 40 feet tall with a width of 20 feet or more, 'Maggie' is a fast growing larger Eucalyptus tree ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings, or as a tall privacy screen in landscape borders. that will beg to be planted as a focal point in your garden. It is one of the best Eucalyptus in the shade. Can also be useful as an evergreen hedge or screen. Can be grown in large containers and is a fine addition to cut flower gardens, fragrance gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  15 feet apart for privacy screen;  30 feet or more for space between trees

Cultural Preferences

Maggie prefers full sun or part shade and will tolerate most soil types including dry and sandy to waterlogged clay. Feel free to plant Maggie in a container as her weeping habit, fragrant foliage, and ability to handle regular pruning makes her the perfect choice for a deck, patio, or porch. Choose a container that's at least 6 inches or more in diameter than the root ball.
