Special Attributes

Originally discovered in 1935 growing in a garden called Lynwood located in Cookstown, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Lynwood Gold is a vigorous, heavy-blooming forsythia noted for its spectacular late winter to early spring bloom of  larger-than-usual bright yellow flowers. The flowers literally cover the branches before the new spring foliage emerges. The willowy green foliage emerges after the bloom cycle and is attractive throughout the season, turning an attractive purple in fall. Give this forsythia plenty of room to grow as it can spread up to 10 feet wide.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 6 to 10 feet tall and 8 to 10 feet wide, Lynwood Gold Forsythia is ideal for use as a specimen, in groupings or as a natural or clipped formal hedge in landscape and flowering shrub borders. A fine addition to yellow theme gardens, cut flower gardens, cottage gardens and perennial gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  5 to 6 feet apart for solid hedges; 12 feet or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Forsythia is exceptionally easy to grow. It is adaptable to most any soil, preferring a loose, moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. Full sun is preferred however plants will tolerate some light shade. Does not require pruning, however responds well to it for shaping purposes or low hedges. Prune immediately after flowering.
