Special Attributes

Jazz Hands Bold Chinese Fringe-flower boasts the largest flowers and largest leaves of any other Loropetalum - two times the size! Its leaves flush soft-burgundy then turn dark purple holding their color year round. Its vibrant pink, witchhazel-like fringe flowers are heavy in spring, appear occasionally in summer, and again in fall. The deep purple foliage provides a stunning contrast for the rich pink flowers. Jazz Hands Bold grows to about 5 to 6 feet tall and equally as wide however responds well to shearing to control size or for shaping purposes.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing naturally to about 5 to 6 feet tall and wide, or kept smaller with occasional pruning, Jazz Hands Bold Chinese Fringe-flower is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or grouped or in straigt or staggered rows as a hedge in landscape borders and home foundation plantings. The year round deep purple foliage contrasts nicely with plants that have yellow, light green, grey or other light colored foliage or flowers. A fine addition to purple or pink theme gardens, Asian gardens and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  4 to 5 feet apart for solid hedge;  10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Jazz Hands Bold Chinese Fringe-flower is very easy to grow. It's not too picky about soil type, however prefers a moist but well-drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can cause root rot or other harmful plant diseases. Grows well in full sun or part shade. Plants are exceptionally drought tolerant when established, requiring little if any supplemental irrigation. Needs little to no pruning however responds very well to it for shaping purposes or to limit size.
