Special Attributes

An excellent selection for the low-maintenance landscape and perfect in the ground or in pots for accentuating entryways or as a low hedge, Hot Head is cute dwarf Arborvitae perfect for use in smaller garden spaces and pots, where its larger cousins won't fit. Hot Head Arborvitae displays intense, vibrant green color and outstanding foliage texture that provides excellent contrast to other plants in the garden. Being a North American native, Arborvitae is very easy to grow and care for with exceptional tolerance to both heat and cold.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing only 3 to 4 feet tall and wide at maturity, the Hothead Arborvitae is ideal for use as a specimen, in small groupings or as a low hedge or border in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. It's smaller size makes it a perfect candidate for pots, planters and other containers that can be used to accentuate entryways or situated on patios, decks and around other outdoor living spaces. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens and formal gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  3 feet apart for solid hedges;  6 feet or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Being North American natives plants, Arborvitae are very easy to grow and care for. They are adaptable to many soil types including red clay and like full sun to part shade. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil and don't like an overly dry site. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Maintenance is minimal with very little if any pruning ever required.
