Special Attributes

Golden Golden is a very rare bamboo with stunning canes that turn color at a very young age. Unlike some other golden bamboos that take years for green canes to turn golden, the canes of Golden Golden start out lime green and then quickly turn to bright yellow. As they age they turn to a deep golden-orange! The canes hold their color well even in full sun. Very vertical appearance makes for a beautiful screening effect. Needless to say, this colorful bamboo makes a very nice ornamental planting. This variety is easily recognized by short internodes at the bottom of some of its canes. The canes are ideal for use as interior decoration, fishing rods, walking sticks, umbrella handles and many other crafts.

Cultural Preferences

Golden Golden Bamboo grows well in most any average garden soil and full sun to part shade.

Golden Golden Bamboo is a running bamboo, which means it spreads. Bamboo can be controlled in a small area (a normal city yard) simply by mowing or stepping on the young shoots. New shoots of some bamboo can also be used for culinary purposes and cooked, much like asparagus. Keep in mind that running bamboo only puts up new shoots for a short time each year and, when they are "shooting," the new plants are very fragile and easy to destroy. Root pruning or a Bamboo Root Barrier are other methods to control spread.
