NEW PLANT FOR 2018!

Girard's Christina Azalea
Azalea x Girard's Hybrid  'Girard's Christina'

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 5a-8b   Find Your Zone >

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 5a, where this Azalea variety is not winter hardy outdoors, you can enjoy growing it in containers that can be moved indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Special Attributes

‘Girard's Christina’ is a spectacular hybrid evergreen azalea that produces LOADS of semi-double rose-red flowers that nearly cover the attractive green foliage in mid to late spring. As the weather cools in fall the bright green leaves turn a brilliant mahogany for the winter. Girard's Christina is an excellent choice for gardeners as far north as USDA Zone 5a where many other azaleas will not survive.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing to 3 to 4 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide, Girard's Christina Azalea is a perfect choice for groupings, mass plantings, low hedges or an accent in partially shaded landscape borders, woodland gardens, and home foundation plantings. Butterflies love the flowers, and blooming branches serve very well for cutting to create stunning indoor floral arrangements.

Spacing:  3-3.5' for solid hedges;  6'+ for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Evergreen Azaleas are easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. They prefer a moist but well-drained and acidic soil that is rich in organic matter and part sun. Morning sun with afternoon shade or filtered sun is ideal. Moderate drought tolerance when established.
