Flaming Silver Pieris
Pieris japonica 'Flaming Silver'

Special Attributes

Flaming Silver Pieris is an absolutely beautiful evergreen shrub providing beautiful, year round color. It puts on a spectacular show in spring when the new leaves emerge appearing as bright red flames dancing above and contrasting beautifully with the variegated white and green leaves below. Abundant dangling clusters of white, bell-shaped flowers appear just before the new growth emerges.

If you've tried growing Pieris in your landscape or gardens in the past without much luck, Flaming Silver, will change that! We've had little luck growing most other Pieris here in Georgia as the heat seems to always take its toll. Flaming Silver is standing up to the heat and humidity in both containers and in the landscape. Just make sure to avoid planting it in sites with constantly soggy soil or standing water. Well-drained soil is a must!

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a mound 4 to 5 feet tall and wide, Flaming Silver Pieris is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or as a natural hedge in shady to partially shaded landscape and woodland borders, and home foundation plantings. They do especially well on fertile embankments, hillsides and slopes. We've had good long-term success growing this one in container gardens and it's a fine addition to woodland gardens, Asian-theme gardens, and cottage gardens.

Suggested Spacing: 3-4' for solid hedges and mass plantings;  7 feet or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Plant your Flaming Silver Pieris in well drained, moist, acidic soils that are rich in organic matter. Add organic compost to heavy clay or poor quality native soils. Pieris prefer growing in a site that provides morning sun with afternoon shade or all-day filtered sun or dappled shade.
