Special Attributes

A long blooming Dianthus with ice-blue foliage forms a tidy mat that stays evergreen, Firewitch presents its brilliant pink single flowers that have frilled petals combined with a pleasing clove scent in spring. Snip off the spent flowers and it will bloom again in summer.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing in a dense mound 1 foot tall and 1 foot wide, Firewitch Dianthus is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or in mass plantings in sunny landscape borders and on slopes. Its smaller size makes it an excellent candidate as a solo or mixed with other plants in pots, planters and other containers. A fine addition to butterfly gardens, sunny perennial gardens, and the Xeriscape (low water needs).

Suggested Spacing:  1 foot apart for mass plantings; 1.5 feet or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences and Planting & Care Tips

Dianthus are very easy to grow in most average to somewhat dry well-drained soil of average to even poor fertility and full to mostly sun. Constantly soggy soil or standing water is problematic. Some light shade is tolerated but the plant will grow more dense and produce the most flowers throughout the flowering season in full to mostly sun. We suggest at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day for best flowering and overall performance. Plant with the top of the root ball even with ground level. Care and maintenance are minimal. Feed in spring with an organic plant food.
