Emerald Snow® Loropetalum
Loropetalum chinensis  'Shang-White' PP 21738 - Emerald Snow®

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 7a-9b (10b?)  Find Your Zone

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 7a, where this Loropetalum is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring. Requires a well-lit space for overwintering indoors.

Special Attributes

Another fine selection from the Southern Living Plant Collection, Emerald Snow® is a tough but beautiful Loropetalum cultivar that blooms more than any other Loropetalum we've ever grown! It shows off masses of pure-white, delicate-appearing fringe flowers in spring ,and then repeats off and on all the way through fall! It boasts intensely colored lime-green new growth that contrasts beautifully against the mature, glossy, dark-green foliage beneath. It was initially reported to grow 3-4' tall with an equal spread but we've found that it grows double that size if left to grow naturally. As with most other Loropetalum, it responds well to pruning so can be kept to a smaller size.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing naturally to about 6-8 feet tall and wide, or kept smaller with occasional pruning, Emerald Snow Loropetalum is an ideal choice as an accent, in groupings or mass plantings, or in straight or staggered rows in home foundation plantings and landscape borders. It's low water needs makes it suitable for use in Xeriscape plantings.

Spacing:  5' for solid hedge;  10' or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Emerald Snow Loropetalum is very easy to grow in most any average, most but well-drained soil and full sun to part shade. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. So make sure to plant in a well-drained site. When established, plants are exceptionally drought tolerant, requiring little if any supplemental irrigation. Foliage is more dense in full sun. Requires no pruning, however responds very well to almost any amount, making it an excellent choice for hedges.
