Special Attributes

The Dee Runk Boxwood is an evergreen shrub with a distinct columnar form that will be an exclamation point in your landscape! An excellent upright cultivar, Dee Runk is grown for its form, deep green lustrous foliage that retains its color right through winter, and its ability to thrive in a variety of site conditions. It tends to be full all the way to the ground and is suitable for planting under power lines. An excellent choice for narrow hedges and screens to 10 feet tall and 2 to 3 feet wide.

Landscape & Garden Uses

With no pruning, Dee Runk Boxwood might reach 8 to 10 feet in height and 2 to feet wide at maturity with a columnar form. With an annual late winter pruning it can be kept shorter and more narrow. Its narrow upright form makes Dee Runk Boxwood an excellent choice as a vertical accent anywhere in the sunny to partially shaded landscape or home foundation plantings. It is a perfect choice for a narrow hedge to fence in patios and other outdoor living spaces for privacy. Also a nice centerpiece in medium to large containers of 16 inches or more in diameter.

Suggested Spacing:  18 inches for solid hedges;  4 feet or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

The Dee Runk Boxwood is exceptionally easy to grow when planted right and in the right spot. It adapts to most soil types, preferring a moist but well drained soil of average fertility. As with so many other plants, a constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. It prefers mostly sun but will tolerate some shade. In our gardens, we've found it to have exceptional drought, heat, disease and pest resistance. Responds well to pruning.
