Special Attributes

The Bonfire Patio Peach Tree is treasured for its deep burgundy leaves, abundant pink flowers that literally cover the branches, and dwarf stature...but what many folks want to know is does it produce edible fruit? The answer is yes. However, in being totally honest, the fruits are quite small and a little rubbery if chewed...not like the many of the pictures you might see on other websites. That said, the red-striated, white flesh is wonderful for making pies and canning. But what we love most about the little peach tree is that it only grows to about 5 feet tall and wide at maturity so is a perfect for growing in pots that can be situated on the patio - hence the name - where the showy, rosy-pink flower buds that open to clear pink flowers with red centers and the deep burgundy foliage that emerges thereafter can be enjoyed from up close. As the season progresses you'll notices the little fuzzy white peaches begin to form along the branches that turn to yellow and then orange-red by late summer. Fall foliage displays golden tones.

Landscape & Garden Uses

These trees are grafted to a compatible, strong and straight growing, upright trunk. Its smaller size makes it a perfect fit for smaller landscapes or garden spaces in the ground or in pots, planters and other containers. The striking burgundy foliage is best set off against a light background or around plants with lighter foliage color. The tree form Bonfire Patio Peach is an excellent choice for a container specimen plant on the patio, deck, or near other sitting areas or walkways.

Cultural Preferences

The Bonfire Peach Tree prefers a consistently moist but well-drained soil of average or better fertility. That said, established plants will tolerate dry periods. As with other fruit trees constantly soggy or wet soil is problematic. Will tolerate clay soil but we recommend amending with organic matter such as compost or a good planting mix. Prefers full to mostly sun however will tolerate some shade. A minimum of 5-6 hours of direct sun each day is recommended. Bonfire Peach Tree responds well to pruning. Prune in late winter before the new leaves begin to emerge. The fruit grows on old wood, last years growth, so be careful not to prune away too many of the buds.
