USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 6a-11  Find Your Zone

Note:  For our customers who live and garden north of USDA Plant Hardiness Zone 6a, where this Salvia species is not reliably winter hardy, you'll be happy to know it can be grown in containers that can be brought indoors during winter and placed back outside when temperatures warm up in spring.

Special Attributes

Bog Sage is a moisture-loving, fast growing perennial that produces loads of pretty, sky-blue flowers from early summer to frost! The plant forms an airy clump to 6 feet tall and wide and is great for the back of a border. Though humans cannot smell the odor of its leaves, we've found that deer can, and they hate it! We use this plant in our gardens to actually repel deer. The deer hate it, but the hummingbirds and butterflies love it. What more can we ask for? Bog Sage such a versatile plant that you can grow it in sun or part shade and wet or periodically dry soils.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 4-6 feet tall and spreading to 6 feet or more wide, Bog Salvia is an ideal choice for use in wet or boggy areas of the landscape. That said, it tolerates temporary dry soil conditions. It is ideal for use near plants that attract deer, to repel the deer. A fine addition to butterfly and pollination gardens, bog gardens, cottage gardens, sunny or partially shaded woodland borders, widflower gardens, and blue color theme gardens. Looks great near the garden pont or other bodies of water.

Cultural Preferences

Bog Sage grows best in a moist to wet soil of average fertility and full sun to part shade. Will tolerate dry periods but flowers best with a moist soil. Cut to the ground before spring. Can be pruned back at any time during the growing season to control size.
