Blue Star Creeper
Laurentia axillaris - Syn. Isotoma fluviatilis

USDA Plant Hardiness Zones: 5a-9b  Find Your Zone

Special Attributes

Blue Star Creeper is an easy to grow, super-low-growing and spreading, flowering perennial plant that is smothered with tiny, star-shaped, baby-blue flowers in late spring, repeating sporadically throughout the season until the first frost in fall. The foliage is evergreen in warmer climates and semi-evergreen in cooler climates. Ideal as a groundcover or to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers.

Landscape & Garden Uses

A dainty little groundcover growing 1/2 inch or less in height and tolerating moderate foot traffic, Blue Star Creeper is perfect for use to fill the gaps between stepping stones and pavers or as a groundcover or underplanting for shrubs, roses, perennials and small trees, such as Japanese maples. Flowering bulbs will pop right through it in spring. Also serves nicely as a soil cover in container gardens grown above ground or in the margins of the garden pond.

Note: When planting in narrow spaces between stepping stones or pavers you can divide the plant into parts that will fit the gaps.

Suggested Spacing:  12 to 18 inches for mass planting;  6-12 inches to fill gaps between stepping stones or pavers

Cultural Preferences

Blue Star Creeper is very easy to grow in consistently moist to wet soils and full sun to part shade. In full sun it needs more moisture. With some shade in the afternoon it will tolerate dry periods. It performs best and will fill a space faster when soil is not allowed to completely dry out.
