'Blue Angel' Hosta Lily
Hosta 'Blue Angel'

Special Attributes

This Hosta Lily is gigantic. Blue Angel is the largest of all blue Hosta lilies we grow, reaching a whopping 3 feet tall and 4 feet wide! It forms large mounds of cascading, silvery blue-green leaves. In summer, soft lavender to white bell-shaped flowers on tall stems rise above the foliage. The hummingbirds in our gardens seem to really appreciate the flowers on this variety.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing 36 inches tall and up to 4 feet wide, the Blue Angel Hosta is ideal for use as an accent, in groupings, or massed in shade gardens or as a border along paths and waklkways. Blue Angel has been so reliable and such a strong performer for us that we have no problem at all suggesting it for use as an accent or in groupings in home foundation plantings. It is also nice under large shade trees, decks, covered porches and any other shady location. Don't think you have any shade? Look on the east side of your home. Very impressive in large containers and a fine addition to a mixed hosta gardens, hummingbird gardens, woodland gardens, and blue color theme gardens.

Spacing:  3 feet apart for mass plantings; 6 feet or more for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Blue Angel Hosta is very easy to grow in most any moist but well drained soil of average fertility and part shade to shade. It prefers the shade, and will practically grow in the dark, so is perfect for planting under tall decks and large shade trees where not much sun shines. That said, it will tolerate morning or evening sun well or all-day filtered sun or dappled shade. Hot afternoon sun can scald the leaves, especially in warmer climates.
