Special Attributes

A low-maintenance upright evergreen conifer that never requires pruning to keep its oval to conical form, Berckman's Golden Arborvitae lights up the landscape with upright flattened fans tipped in bright yellow throughout the growing season. Foliage holds color well during winter with very little if any bronzing in winter. In our landscape this one has grown to about 7 feet tall in 15 years with no pruning.

Landscape & Garden Uses

Growing naturally in an oval-conical shape 6 to 8 feet tall and about 4 to 5 feet wide, Berckman's Golden Arborvitae is great for use in the landscape or in pots, planters and other containers. Use it as a colorful accent or in groupings in landscape borders or home foundation plantings, where it makes a perfect corner plant. Also useful as a natural hedge or privacy screen. A fine addition to conifer gardens, rock gardens, yellow theme gardens, and formal gardens.

Suggested Spacing:  4 feet apart for solid hedges; 10 feet or more apart for space between plants

Cultural Preferences

Arborvitae are very easy to grow and care for. They are adaptable to many soil types including red clay and like full sun to part shade. They prefer a moist but well-drained soil. They don't like an overly dry site. As with so many other ornamental plants, constantly soggy or wet soil can be problematic. Maintenance is minimal with very little if any pruning ever required.
